The Low-Hanging Fruit of Spiritual Development
Have I written this before? That driving is my most frequent spiritual practice? And that the weather is another one?
In the car, so much of my stuff comes up. Frustration. Judgement. Insecurity. Shame. Guilt. Fear.
People are driving too slow, too fast, too careful, too aggressive. They cut me off, they ride on my tail, and they do not use blinkers often enough!
My default is judgment, it’s frustration, it’s annoyance, it’s cynicism, it’s fear.
Driving is low-hanging fruit. I can’t control other drivers, so I can either stew in my doodoo or transform it. And as I master transforming judgment into blessing and gratitude in the car, I become more facile with it in my relationships and with myself.
Blessing, grateful, and loving as ways of being can be practiced in any context, and driving is a good one for me.
The weather is another one. I can’t change it, so I might as well learn to love it.
And in loving the weather, I learn to love myself and others more fully, more deeply, more unconditionally.
What are the common, everyday, low-hanging fruit situations that you already have no control over that can lead you toward spiritual development?
Much Love. ❤️
(As always, 100% human-written.)
